Early Life and Education

Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh, was born in Manipur, India, and hails from the Imphal West district. He pursued a career in medicine, earning his Doctor of Medicine (MD) in Radiodiagnosis and Medical Imaging in 2005. Prior to entering politics, he worked as a medical professional, specializing in radiology.

Political Career

Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh is a member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). He entered electoral politics in the 2017 Manipur Legislative Assembly elections, where he successfully contested and won the Konthoujam Assembly constituency in Imphal West district, defeating his opponents.

He retained the seat in the 2022 elections, solidifying his position as the MLA from Konthoujam.

In the BJP-led government under Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, Dr. Singh has held key ministerial roles. He served as the Minister for Health and Family Welfare, as well as the Minister for Information and Public Relations (IPR). During his tenure, he focused on public health initiatives, including launching the Surakshit Matritva Aaswasan (SUMAN) scheme in 2022 at the Community Health Centre (CHC) Wangoi to provide free quality healthcare to women and newborns. He also inaugurated operational theaters and training programs for health officials, such as the Agenda Manipur Immersion on healthcare systems.

As a legislator, he has been active in constituency development, notably initiating the cleaning of the Maklang River banks in 2018 to mitigate flooding and natural calamities in Konthoujam.

In the 12th Manipur Assembly, he played a role in parliamentary proceedings, including nominating Thokchom Satyabrata as the Speaker in 2022.During the COVID-19 pandemic, he contributed as an Adviser to the Chief Minister on Health matters, emphasizing preparedness and response efforts.

Recent Activities and Current Status

As of November 2025, Dr. Sapam Ranjan Singh remains an active BJP MLA from Konthoujam and participated in a high-level party meeting in Imphal on November 12, 2025, with national leaders like B.L. Santhosh and Sambit Patra. The discussions centered on strengthening the BJP’s organizational structure in Manipur, addressing issues faced by internally displaced persons (IDPs) amid ongoing ethnic tensions, and preparing for the formation of a “popular government” ahead of the 2027 elections.
